THE NONINO PRIZE BECOMES BIENNIAL AND MORE INTERNATIONAL: A NEW ERA FOR EXCELLENCE
The Nonino Prize has a history spanning half a century, and we, the Nonino sisters, have decided to enhance its excellence more than ever with two important new developments.
The Nonino Prize becomes even more international, with dialogues and events held at leading European and global institutions, beginning in Paris in 2026. At the same time, the Prize will adopt a biennial schedule, with the next edition of the Nonino Prize taking place on 30 January 2027, as always at our Distilleries in Ronchi di Percoto, in Friuli.
These decisions stem from our desire to give even greater scope and depth to a project that our family has carried forward since our mother Giannola and our father Benito founded it to defend rural culture and to save Friulian native grape varieties that were at risk of extinction. From there, the Prize grew, opening up to literature, thought and science… and it has had the honor of anticipating the choices of the Nobel Prizes on six occasions.
Today, we feel that the time has come to take a new step forward. A step taken in the name of our father Benito, dedicated to his vision and his ability to look far ahead.
The Prize changes its rhythm, but not its soul. It continues to be an invitation to reflect on respect for the land, for humanity and for future generations; a place of encounter between different worlds, a bridge between past and future. And we very much look forward to sharing this new chapter with you, with the same excitement as always.
